Greetings Friends
Since celebrating Easter in April, we began looking at the development of the people of God through Scriptures...beginning with Abram. We discovered through the Law, the Prophets, and the Psalms that the people of God (Israel) were to be a covenant community, a holy community, a righteous and just community, and a praising community. We discovered through the Gospels and Acts that a new people of God (the Church) was being formed by faith in the One who fulfilled in every way what Israel was (but failed) to be. That One being Jesus the Christ, the Son of God. We remembered on Pentecost Sunday how this new people was birthed and given life when the Holy Spirit of God descended on the apostles and the Good News of Jesus was proclaimed to "all nations" beginning in Jerusalem (Acts 2). We have seen that the Spirit of God has gifted the members of the Church for the purpose of the common good and to bring glory to God. These gifted members of Christ's Church are held together, united, by love...God's love flowing through us.
Starting Sunday we will begin a month-long discussion of how this organism (NOT organization), called "the Church", is structured...beginning this week with its "head"...namely our Lord Jesus Christ. Let's come and worship our risen Lord and learn afresh what it means to be his people....together!
